What is dog arthritis?
Dog arthritis is one of the most common diseases affecting dogs, especially middle-aged and older dogs. Regardless of whether your dog is large or small, dog arthritis can be a source of chronic pain and negatively impact quality of life. Dog arthritis, also known as degenerative joint disease, occurs when joint instability causes the bones within the joint to move abnormally. Cartilage lines joints and acts as a barrier between bones. Over time, this abnormal movement erodes the cartilage and bone begins to rub against bone, creating chronic inflammation and pain.

How to help dog arthritis?

  • As dogs age, we start to watch for certain ailments they may develop, such as arthritis. Dog arthritis is a disease that worsens over time and cannot be reversed or cured. Dogs' joints naturally lose cartilage and grow over the edges of the bones. The tissue surrounding the bones also thickens.
  • Dog arthritis can be caused by aging or injury. This can be painful and hinder your dog's mobility.

Some common symptoms of dog arthritis include

  • Stiffness when walking
  • Difficulty getting up
  • Not very active
  • Lack of interest in playing or walking
  • Increased stiffness after excessive exertion
  • swelling around joints
  • Reduced range of motion when walking

Some basic actions can help reduce your dog's dog arthritis pain and anxiety

  • Anti-slip carpet
Dogs with dog arthritis and joint pain may be afraid of walking on slippery surfaces like hardwood or tile because their mobility is limited and they would feel pain if they fell.
Using non-slip mats, rugs and rugs on slippery floors can help your dog move around the house more without having to worry about slipping.
  • Orthopedic dog bed
Comfortable dog beds that are low to the ground and have orthopedic support can reduce dog arthritis and allow them to stand up easily.
  • Block the stairs
Stairs should be cordoned off with pet gates to ensure your dog's safety when not under your direct supervision and to avoid increasing the pain of dog arthritis.

How is dog arthritis usually treated?

  • If you suspect your dog has dog arthritis, the first thing you should do is consult your veterinarian. They will be able to confirm the diagnosis and then help you determine your next steps.
  • The goals of any dog arthritis treatment are to minimize pain, prevent more damage between joints, and improve movement.

Can dog arthritis go away?

  • Although there is no cure for dog arthritis, having a treatment plan in the early stages can make the condition more tolerable and provide your dog with a better quality of life.
  • Dog braces provide continuous support and help relieve pain for people with dog arthritis. The Lovepluspet Dog Leg Brace helps transfer the dog's weight from the healthy leg to the injured leg so they can walk smoothly again. Joint stability will aid in the healing of dog arthritis.
